It is easy to get carried away at the prospect of camping and simply throw a tent and sleeping bag into the car and head off.  But some items are a necessity to ensure a safe and happy camping trip. For items to take with you and checks to be carried out, please see the checklist.

Whenever you go camping it is really easy to forget something.Finding a shop where you can buy one or two items isn’t the end of the world when staying on an organised campsite; it can however, be a pain to find yourself in the middle of nowhere with no shops. If you are not that experienced at going camping, use the checklist to help you to pack necessary items; this will ensure your camping trip is hassle free.

Tents: This may seem obvious, but you need to take a tent that fits your needs. You need to check your tent to see if it’s fit for purpose before you travel.Checking everything before you leave is essential as you might end up arriving at the campsite with a gaping hole in your tent which was once a tiny tear or even worse finding out that your tent is no longer waterproof.

Sleeping Bags: Take a sleeping bag that is right for the season. A lightweight sleeping bag is simply no good when camping in the winter.Take two sleeping bags with you if it is likely to be cold as it’s easier to get cool rather than trying to warm up.

Camping Mattress:  People often think about a camping mattress in terms of comfort and it is true that a good camping mattress can help you get a good nights sleep, since it will help soften the ground below. To keep from getting cold and to provide another barrier between you and any creepy crawlies, invest in a good mattress.

Water: Always take water with you, so that you can be sure that you don’t become dehydrated.Even in winter this is important, stock up on water always.

Torch: The wind up battery free torches are the best so always ensure you carry one with you.Having it with you at all times is essential as you will never know when you will need it!

Camping Stove: Check that your stove works and has fuel before travelling, otherwise you could have a hungry trip.

Coolbox: Your food is more likely to go off quickly if you do not have an insulated coolbox.Replace any tears or rips in the coolbox before you set off.

Swiss Army Knife: Always take a swiss army knife (or something similar) with you as it will come in very handy as an opening device.

Food: Most people eat out at some point during their camping trip but take some food with you just in case.  Then if you can’t find anywhere to eat at least you will have something to stave off the hunger pangs!
